President Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th President of the United States and is the only president to serve two non-consecutive terms. He was born in New Jersey in 1837 and raised in upstate New York. Cleveland was elected Mayor of Buffalo, New York in 1881, and within the next year was Governor of New York. By 1884, Democrats were looking to Cleveland to win presidency. He won by slim margins against opponent James Blaine. Cleveland married Frances Folsom, the daughter of his former law partner, in 1886 and is the only president to be married in the White House. He ran for reelection in 1888 but was defeated by Benjamin Harrison. Even though Cleveland had won a larger share of the popular vote, his opponent had received more votes in the Electoral College. He ran for presidency again in 1892 and won, squashing Harrison’s hopes for a consecutive second term. After leaving the White House in 1897 he retired to Princeton, New Jersey. He died in 1908 at the age of 71.
This is the second term Grover Cleveland Presidential Dollar. The first term can be found here.
