These wonderful silver coins can be considered nothing short of a work of art. The obverse is that of Alexander as represented by Herakles (Hercules) wearing a lions skin headdress. The reverse features a seated Zeus. Each of these Drachma are in extremely fine condition and for comparison is roughly the size of a U.S. dime. Many different mint marks and symbols are used, making virtually no two alike.
Alexander the Great was King of Macedonia and most of the known world from 336-323 B.C. His conquests are even more remarkable when it is considered he died when he was just 33 years old. Alexander was well educated, having been taught by the philosopher Aristotle.
