These half dollars were struck in recognition of the 100th birthday of the Statue of Liberty. Minted in 1986 and struck in copper-nickel, these were the second commemorative half dollar issued since 1954. The explosion of of commemoratives in recent years can certainly be attributed to the popularity these coins enjoyed at the time of their issue. Each comes housed in its original mint box with certificate. The proofs are encapsulated, with the uncirculated examples being sealed in cellophane.
