The Icons of Route 66 Silver Shields Series will take you on a trip through 8 states from Illinois to California. Whether you've traveled along Rt. 66 yourself, or have just heard stories and watched television shows, they're sure to add some history and American culture to your collection!

Venturing from Cadillac Ranch in Texas, along the route to New Mexico, there are two Dinosaur Museum's you can stop at along the route. The first one is the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum and Natural Sciences Laboratory in Tucumcari, NM. Here you can take the time to brush up on your knowledge of the Mesozoic period, known as 'The Age of the Dinosaurs.' Within the museum there are many fossils and life-sized bronze skeletons, as well as dinosaur sculptures and paintings. The museum is family friendly, and has an activity center with touchable exhibits for children. The Natural Science Laboratory is also open to the public where guests can see exhibits that are being worked on, whether new or existing. While you're in Tucumcari, feel free to also stop by the New Mexico Route 66 Museum, as it's only about 5 minutes away!

Further down the route in Albuquerque, NM you can stop at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science. Here you will find even more dinosaur fossils and science exhibits. This museum is home to a cast replica of the second largest known Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil, named Stan, that is portrayed on the obverse of the silver shield. Other permanent exhibits include: The Bisti Beast, featuring newer fossils discovered within New Mexico, as well as Emergence (about the formation of life on Earth), Fossilworks, showcasing the extraction of fossils from rock, Timetracks, a timeline of New Mexico's natural history, The Naturalist Center, an interactive family friendly area, The Hall of Stars, and the Kiwanis Learning Garden, an outdoor learning space. The museum also has a number of temporary exhibits at any given time.

If you're taking the trip, these museums are a must see on Route 66!
