1916 was the first year of issue for Mercury Dimes. That year was also a transitional year as 1916 Barber Dimes were also struck prior to the release of the Mercuries.
Like many coins of the period, the strike quality can vary on Mercury Dimes. Fully struck examples will have the center bands on the reverse fasces completely separated. This is referred to as "Full Split Bands" and can be abbreviated as "FB", "SB," or "FSB." Some dates, including otherwise common dates, can be extremely rare with Full Bands.
