The George Rogers Clark 5 ounce coin is the last America The Beautiful bullion coin released for 2017. These large 5 ounce coins are the official U.S. Mint issues and have a diameter of 3 inches! The obverse depicts George Washington with the inscriptions of “United States of America,” “Liberty” and “In God we Trust.”

The depiction of George Clark and two of his men, charging for battle, is on the reverse as well as the inscriptions “George Rogers Clark,” “Indiana,” “2017” and “E Pluribus Unum.” Quantities of ten 2017 George Rogers Clark Oz Silver Coins will be shipped in original U.S. Mint tubes.

George Rogers Clark was a Lieutenant Colonel during the American Revolutionary war and in the winter of 1779 led a small group of men from the Virginia Militia to surprise and defeat British Troops at Fort Sackville, in Vincennes, Indiana. Clark and his troops also captured the Village of Kaskaskia the previous year. His successes on the battlefield led to the eventual purchase of the Northwest Territory through the Treaty of Paris in 1783.

The George Rogers Clark National Historic Park spans over 26 acres along the Wabash River in Vincennes, IN. Inside the park, located on the former site of Fort Sackville grounds, you will find several monuments and memorials, including one for its namesake that is the largest memorial building outside of Washington D.C. Though the Clark Memorial was constructed from 1931-1933, it wasn't designated as a Historical site until 1966.
