2017 is the U.S. Mint's 225th Anniversary and to celebrate they are issuing a $100 One Ounce High Relief Gold Coin featuring none other than Lady Liberty herself with a limited mintage of 100,000. There have been many different variations of the iconic symbol on U.S. coinage since 1792, however, 2017 marks the first time an African-American Lady Liberty design has been used.
This strikingly beautiful 2017 $100 High Relief Gold Coin features one ounce of .9999 fine Gold and special edge lettering with the inscription "225th Anniversary." With an enhanced proof finish, mirrored fields, and frosted devices, this coin is the first of its kind. Certified by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) as proof-69 early release and protected in a slabbed holder, this coin is sure to add beauty to any collection!
The obverse features a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a crown of stars and the inscriptions "Liberty, 1792, 2017" and "In God We Trust." Also included are the designer; Justin Kunz's initials, JK and sculptor; Phebe Hemphill's initials, PH. The reverse depicts an American Eagle in flight, and inscriptions "United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, 1oz. .9999 Fine Gold, 100 Dollars and W. Also included are the designer; Chris Costell's initials CTC and sculptor; Michael Gaudioso's initials, MG.
The 2017 High Relief American Liberty Gold is the first in the Lady Liberty Series. According to the U.S. Mint, the series will include depictions of Liberty as a Hispanic-American, Asian-American and Indian-American among others to express the cultural diversity of America.
Please Note: Edge lettering was first seen in 2016 on the Proof Silver Eagle. Enhanced finish was first seen in the 2013 West Point Silver Eagle Set, but the enhanced finish was not a proof issue.
