2018 World War I Centennial Commemorative 2 Piece Set - Includes Silver Dollar and Silver Coast Guard Medal - Limited Mintage!
To commemorate the Centennial of World War I, the U.S. Mint is releasing five 2 piece sets that include a Proof Silver Dollar and a Silver Proof Medal housed in a case with Certificate of Authenticity included. Each branch of the military is being recognized including the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Service, and Coast Guard. Only 100,000 sets are being minted across all five medal designs and they are being minted to demand.
The Coast Guard Set includes one Proof Silver Dollar and one Silver Proof Coast Guard Medal. The Medal obverse design shows three guard members in a lifeboat, one with a life preserver in-hand ready to be thrown. A U.S. Cutter vessel is in the background, according to the U.S. Mint it is the USCG Cutter Seneca. Reverse design includes inscriptions, "Centennial of World War I," "2018,” and “Over There!” Also seen is the U.S. Coast Guard emblem featuring two anchors, a key, and scales of justice.
The Proof Silver Dollar design is the same across all five sets. On the obverse a soldier is holding a rifle up on his right shoulder. Barbed wire is in the lower right quadrant and inscriptions “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1918 2018” is seen in the remaining quadrants. The beautifully design reverse shows poppy flowers among barbed wire with the inscriptions “ United States of America,” “One Dollar” and “E Pluribus Unum.” The obverse design is being dubbed “Soldiers Charge” while the reverse is “Poppies in the Wire.”
