Fresh from the U.S Mint is the new 2 coin Apollo 11 Proof Half Dollar Set that includes the 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof Kennedy Half Dollar and the 2019-S Proof Apollo 11 Half Dollar. The original government packaging with this set is considered Error Packaging. The information section on the reverse of the outer sleeve states that Gilroy Roberts was both the Obverse and Reverse Designer/Engraver, which is incorrect. Frank Gasparro designed and engraved the reverse of the Kennedy Half and his initials FG are seen on the reverse. Approximately 70,000 of these 2 coin Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Sets were released before the discovery of the error had been made.
Both coins consist of a clad composition of 8.33% Nickel with the balance in Copper. The Kennedy Half has a limited mintage of 100,000 while the Half Dollar carries a mintage of 750,000 (across all product options). The 2019 Kennedy Half features an Enhanced Reverse Proof finish where Kennedy's portrait, the devices, are enhanced and the fields show a Reverse Proof finish. The Half Dollar is a dome-shaped coin, only the second to be released by the U.S. Mint (the first being the 2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative issue).
