Though the San Francisco Mint Denali Quarters were struck as Business Strikes, none of these quarters were issued for circulation, insuring their desirability for years to come.
Denali National Park and Preserve, established in 1917, is previously known as Mount McKinley National park. In 1980, the park more than doubled in size to 6 million acres to include preservation lands. The park was originally formed to pretoect wildlife populations and is currently home to Dall sheep, moose, wolves, grizzly bears, and caribou.
The reverse design of the Denali Quarter portrays a Dall sheep with Mount McKinley in the background.
