PRODUCT DETAILS:

2012 El Yunque Quarter Coin - S Mint - (UNC) Brilliant Uncirculated

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Released on 1/23/2012.
  • The San Francisco Mint El Yunque Quarter is the first non-proof 'S' mint quarter issued since 1976 and the first non proof clad quarter issued since 1954. Though struck as Business Strikes, none of these quarters were issued for circulation, insuring their desirability for years to come.
  • The obverse shows a slightly modified version of the original Washington Quarter. The mint moved some of the wording previously found on the reverse to the obverse in order to make more room for the reverse design for each state. You'll find "United States of America," "In God We Trust," "Liberty," and "Quarter Dollar" all spelled out on the obverse of the quarter as well as the coin's mint mark.
  • The reverse of the El Yunque quarter depicts a Coqui tree frog sitting on a leaf and a Puerto Rican parrot behind an epiphyte plant with tropical flora in the background.
  • The 5 National Parks Released in 2012 were El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, Acadia National Park in Maine, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii and Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska.
  • Sovereign coins minted at the San Francisco Branch of the U.S. Mint and backed by the United States government, each with a face value of $0.25. The America the Beautiful Quarter Program began in 2010, but Uncirculated Quarters were not minted at San Francisco until 2012.

El Yunque was originally established as a national site on January 17, 1903. The park is unique in that it is the sole tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System.

All coins come in protective plastic. Orders of 40 or more may ship in tubes.
