The obverse of the quarter pictures a young Theodore Roosevelt in the foreground sitting atop a horse looking over the Little Missouri River. The reverse shows George Washington and includes the same inscriptions as previous ATB Quarter Issues.
Roosevelt National Park, founded in November 1978 in part to memorialize Roosevelt's role in conservation ethics, spans over 100 miles. It is known for the Maltese Cross Cabin (Roosevelt's first ranch home) and the Long X Trail, which was used to move cattle into the Northern Great Plains. It is located in western North Dakota.
